Leeds United must pivot away from their ambitious pursuit of free agent Julian Brandt and immediately seal a deal for Bosnian sensation Kerim Alajbegovic following his breathtaking 2026 FIFA World Cup wondergoal on Wednesday.

While Elland Road chiefs have been exploring a glamorous swoop for the out-of-contract Borussia Dortmund playmaker, top European heavyweights have already placed good offers on the table.

Rather than chasing a drawn-out battle against UEFA Champions League clubs for the 30-year-old, Daniel Farke should demand the hierarchy throw everything at Alajbegovic, who just announced himself to the world with a stunning solo goal against Qatar.

Having already met the 18-year-old’s representatives, Leeds United must act fast to lock down an identified target whose valuation is rapidly soaring on the global stage.

GET HIM IN: On a free, Julian Brandt would be Daniel Farke’s best Leeds signing 🔥

Better than Ampadu, Rodon and Stach.

Bosnian media blown away by Alajbegovic masterclass

The teenage winger’s breakout performance in the United States captured global attention and drove the Bosnian press into an absolute frenzy.

Evaluating his magnificent display, prominent outlet Klix lauded his incredible tactical discipline:

“The young midfielder (he played on the left-hand side of a 4-4-2) posed a constant threat to the Qatari defence throughout the match, and in addition to scoring a goal, he also stood out with his great commitment in both directions, for which he deservedly won the award for the best individual of the match.”

Meanwhile, national broadcaster BHRT crowned his individual piece of magic, where he slalomed past two defenders before unleashing a thunderstrike into the top-right corner of the goal, as the definitive highlight of the World Cup so far:

“Alajbegovic was at the centre of the most important events on the pitch. His spectacular goal in the first half was the turning point of the match and one of the most attractive goals of the World Cup so far.

“Against Qatar, he not only stood out with a goal, but also with constant pressure on the opponent’s defence, quality movements without the ball and a great contribution to organising the attack.

“Alajbegovic was one of the most outstanding individuals, which is confirmed by the man of the match award.”

Why Alajbegovic is the elite alternative Farke needs at Leeds United

While the romanticism of bringing a seasoned playmaker like Julian Brandt to West Yorkshire has excited the fanbase, Alajbegovic fits the exact profile the 49ers Enterprises should be aggressively targeting.

Fresh off a spectacular campaign with Red Bull Salzburg, where he racked up 13 goals and four assists in 44 appearances, his rapid rise forced Bayer Leverkusen to instantly trigger their £7million buy-back option.

However, top clubs are ready to test the German club’s resolve by tempting them to make a quick profit with offers close to £18m.

Leeds United have already held face-to-face talks with his representatives, and they must now use that early legwork to secure a generation-defining coup before his signature spins completely out of reach.

Compared to Brandt, who is now facing serious interest from AS Roma and others, Alajbegovic represents the ultimate long-term investment.

He matches the explosive, high-pressing identity that Farke demands from his wide attackers.

His relentless work rate off the ball, coupled with a fearless desire to drive at defenders, makes him the perfect tactical replacement if Wilfried Gnonto departs Elland Road.

If Leeds United want to firmly establish their upward momentum in the Premier League, they need to leave ageing free agents behind and formalise a statement swoop for the World Cup’s newest superstar.
