Daniel Farke now simply has to start £2.5m player for Leeds United’s play-off trip to Norwich City

Daniel Farke faces his biggest Leeds United team selection yet for Sunday’s play-off tie at Norwich City.

The Whites will effectively get their second shot at winning promotion back to the Premier League after missing out on a place in the top two to Leicester City and Ipswich Town.

After losing four of their last six regular season matches, Farke will have spent the last week pondering ways in which he can get his Leeds side back on track.

Though OPTA’s supercomputer has Leeds as the favourites to go all the way, they will need to make Championship history if they are to do so.

But there are plenty of people backing Leeds to get the job done with Blackburn Rovers’ Sammie Szmodics among them, as well as former boss Sam Allardyce.

Farke needs to make Connor Roberts selection call vs Norwich

Farke shared an injury update in his press conference on Friday with Dan James the only one of four players to miss the final day with a chance of returning.

Alongside Pascal Struijk and Stuart Dallas, Patrick Bamford has actually been ruled out of both legs, in what is a big blow for Leeds. Their win percentage this season is over 20 per cent higher with him starting.

However, there is one player who looks ready to start after his recent injury issue and that is Connor Roberts, after returning from the bench against Southampton.

Roberts has struggled with injuries since the March international break, missing half of Leeds’ final eight matches.

Sam Byram is the man who has got the nod at right-back in the last three, but after a full week of training under his belt, £2.5 million Roberts needs bringing into the side.

Roberts has the experience of winning promotion before having done so with Burnley just a year ago, and at 28, is one of the senior members of the squad. He is also the type of character prepared to be a leader on the field.

With a goal and assist in 307 minutes of football since joining Leeds in January, Roberts is also likely to offer more going forward. He is exactly the sort of player who needs to step up for Farke’s men to win promotion.

Predicted Leeds XI to face Norwich in first leg

Despite a difficult end to the season, it is unlikely Farke will be making wholesale changes to his starting XI for the play-offs.

Roberts is one player who should come in, but other than that, it could be more of the same that began the game against the Saints.

Glen Kamara seems to add more control than Archie Gray in midfield and therefore deserves to keep his place, while Joel Piroe looks set to continue deputising for the injured Bamford.
