Sacrifices will have to be made at Leeds United this summer, with Daniel Farke looking to bolster his squad.

It was a brilliant performance last campaign as Leeds went toe-to-toe with Burnley for the Championship title.

The players proved their worth, finishing the season in style and reaching their 100-point mark, and now the Premier League is in sight.

Albeit a brilliant effort from everyone around the squad, Farke made it very clear that only six could start for Leeds next season.

Ethan Ampadu was amongst the six named, but now Farke might have changed his mind, and this is why he should follow through with this new target at hand.

Leeds United want Southampton star Shea Charles this summer

Ampadu is obviously a great leader around the changing room, but this doesn’t mean his place is completely off limits.

Competition is healthy, and this appears to be the case that Farke is getting across, with Leeds wanting Shea Charles.

The 21-year-old midfielder was a reliable option for Sheffield Wednesday last campaign, as the Whites are looking to lure the Southampton star back to the Premier League after an impressive campaign, even being nominated for the young player of the season award.

Unfortunately for the aspiring talent, Jobe Bellingham pipped him to the award, but Charles has every reason to compete in the top flight, and Ampadu might be one of those worried about his potential signing.

How Leeds target Charles and Ampadu compare speaks volumes to Farke

Even though Ampadu might feel his place is secure, the 49ers aren’t willing to make those promises with a major overhaul needed.

Charles seems like a very promising asset, and younger legs in midfield or defence might see Farke prefer him to Ampadu.

Both players have that versatility that Farke will want, but Charles trumps Ampadu when it comes to one key factor needed for top-flight football.

The 21-year-old’s passing and creativity are what stand out, and even though Ampadu is solid, he might not cut it with just his passion and desire in duels, as Charles backs up his game with his play on the ball as opposed to off it.

Adding to this, the youngster might even pop up with a goal, as seen on international duty with Northern Ireland.

Ampadu recently got a 6/10 for Wales, and if his performances like that continue in the Premier League, Charles might always be the preferred option in either that six role or at the back.

Taking into account Ampadu’s injury record and Charles’ upward trajectory at the moment as well, it doesn’t bode well for the Whites’ captain.
