Leeds have been linked with a move for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain since his departure from Besiktas in August.
The England international became a free agent when he mutually agreed to terminate his contract with the Turkish giants, and is yet to find a new club despite being desperate to return to action.
Daniel Farke was not directly asked about Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain during his press conference on Friday, but he did make an interesting comment for Leeds fans to digest.
Daniel Farke suggests the free agent market is on his mind at Leeds United
When asked if Leeds have any money to spend on new signings in January, the German went on to say that “nothing will happen” before the trip to Anfield to face Liverpool on Thursday 1st January.
Do Leeds even NEED signings after enjoying success with a 3-5-2 formation?
The 49-year-old said: “At least for the next four games we will definitely have this group together, so nothing will happen before the Liverpool game. My focus for the next four games is just to concentrate on maximising this group, and we’ll see what we can do in January.”
However, the transfer window only opens on that exact Thursday, so it surely goes without saying that no signings will arrive before then – unless Farke is considering a free agent.
For those unaware, free transfers can be made inside or outside of a transfer window.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain might have to give up hope of a move to Leeds United completely
As aforesaid, Oxlade-Chamberlain is itching to find a new club, telling The Athletic this week: “I want to play. I’m not ready to call it quits by any means. I don’t feel old. I’ve still got that hunger to play and do well. I just want the opportunity to show what I can still do.
Would YOU have Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at Leeds?
Of course, you could still argue that Leeds might sign the man born in Portsmouth later on.
However, if Farke did have an interest in signing Oxlade-Chamberlain, it surely makes sense to get him to Elland Road as soon as possible in order for him to build up his fitness at Thorp Arch.
So, the fact “nothing will happen” before Thursday 1st January strongly suggests Leeds will not be taking the 32-year-old at all.
