Leeds United loanee Brenden Aaronson has seen his season go from bad to worse today.
Aaronson is coming towards the end of a season-long-loan at Union Berlin where his struggles at Elland Road last term have very much continued into the current campaign.
The 23-year-old, who is unlikely to have a long-term future at Leeds anyway, has started just six Bundesliga matches for Union, who are still in a fight to beat the drop.
Aaronson was only able to break his duck in front of goal for Union in a win over Hoffenheim last month, which was actually his first goal at club level since netting the opener in a 3-0 win over Chelsea in August 2022.
And Aaronson’s struggles have been compounded today with the news that he has been snubbed from the latest USA squad for the upcoming international break.
Aaronson’s USA snub is bad news for Leeds
As mentioned, Aaronson is unlikely to be offered a route back at Leeds despite reports they were considering a recall back in the January transfer window.
USA had always provided Aaronson with a welcome break from club football, with his last omission from the squad coming two years ago now, which was when he was injured at RB Salzburg.
He has already been capped 38 times by the States but this omission will undoubtedly be a worry for him, given that his form has shown no signs of turning around. Even former Leeds teammate Tyler Adams is in the squad, who played for just the second time in a year last night.
Ultimately, though, this snub is bad news for Leeds as it only reduces the chances of them being able to sell him for anywhere close to the £25 million they paid for him.
The plan was for him to leave on loan this season in order for him to increase his value, but if anything, it has only depreciated even more. His next career move will certainly be an interesting one.
