Leeds United eventually brought in Isaac Schmidt to provide cover at full-back on deadline day, but he was one of many names linked with Leeds during the summer.
Plenty of options were considered before Leeds settled on a move to sign Schmidt from Swiss side St. Gallen, who remained an unused sub on Saturday as Daniel Farke’s side suffered a 1-0 defeat to Burnley.
Jayden Bogle has also joined Leeds, but the right-back has made a tricky start in Yorkshire. The £5m man made another mistake on Saturday, one that Tony Dorigo criticised as Burnley secured all three points.
Right-back then, remains a position of doubt in Farke’s current side but one player linked with Leeds in the summer would have surely ended any concern, had Leeds managed to get him through the door.
Leeds wanted to sign Max Aarons from Bournemouth
Of course, Farke worked with Aarons at Norwich. A player Farke described as “outstanding” during his time as Norwich manager, and a player he tried to sign last summer at Leeds only to join Bournemouth.
A move to Leeds came incredibly close last summer, to the point in which Aarons apologised to Farke. This summer, Leeds were interested in Aarons again but were told to pay well over £15m to sign him.
Now, Aarons might be wishing Leeds had done business with Bournemouth once again as he struggle for game time under Andoni Iraola. A manager once linked with Leeds following the sacking of Jesse Marsch.
Aarons yet to play a single minute for Bournemouth this term
Having failed to play for Bournemouth this season following the close of the window, Aarons was not even picked for The Cherries’ first two Premier League games. He returned to the bench at Everton.
But on Saturday, Aarons was dropped from Bournemouth’s squad again by Iraola as his side suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Chelsea. The £12m signing from Norwich has managed just 23 outings for The Cherries.
Aarons then, might actually be regretting his move to Bournemouth in the first place and in the summer, he may be wishing that Leeds had actually come in for him. At least then, he might get some game time.
