Daniel Farke shared his assessment of Leeds United’s 3-1 win over Leicester City last night.
The Whites had been trailing for over an hour after Wout Faes’ header inside the opening 15 minutes, but staged an incredible comeback in the final 10 minutes to take all three points.
Both sides were guilty of being extremely wasteful in front of goal, with Leeds spurning three one-on-ones in the first half, and Leicester doing similar after the break.
Joel Piroe had, perhaps, the best chance of the lot for Leeds, as he got on the end of a well-worked move involving Willy Gnonto and Archie Gray, before spurning an effort into the stand.
Piroe also could’ve done better with a header later on in the half and speaking in his post-match press conference after the game, Farke says the 24-year-old should’ve done better with his chances.
Farke critical of Piroe finishing
He said: “Everything plays a part. Overall, when I judge the game they were lucky to be in the lead at the break. Piroe should score or pass to Summerville for a tap-in. Gnonto’s chance. Have to use that. Joel’s header. Such a good side, you cannot create 10 big chances. We should have used those to lead.”
Piroe’s finishing was certainly a disappointment in the first half as you would’ve backed him to put that sort of chance away, or at least on target, nine times out of 10.
Leeds paid the big money to bring him in from Swansea City for those type of moments and he just seemed to snatch at it under the pressure of such a big game.
However, thankfully Leeds had the luxury of bringing on someone like Patrick Bamford in the second half, and he certainly made an impact in the time he had on the pitch.
With Bamford now fully fit after his injury, Piroe may have his work cut out keeping his place in the team, having started each of the last three matches.
