‘In this stadium’… Enzo Maresca shares where Leeds United were better than Leicester tonight

Enzo Maresca has shared his immediate verdict on Leicester City’s defeat to Leeds United tonight.

The Foxes were the better side for much of the game but failed to capitalise on their chances and were ultimately made to pay in the final 10 minutes.

Stephy Mavididi and Patson Daka were both guilty of squandering massive opportunities, while the latter was also unfortunate to have a goal chalked off in the second half to make it 2-0.

However, Leeds showed their character by never giving up and goals in the final 10 minutes from Connor Roberts, Archie Gray and Patrick Bamford were enough to earn an incredible three points.

Speaking in his post-match interview after the game, Maresca believes his side were better on the night, but at the same, says Leeds have the mental edge over his side.

Maresca criticises Leicester mentality

He said: “Until the goal we conceded, we were in control, we dominated. It’s a matter of taking chances. In the last 10 minutes, in this stadium, it’s easy that when you concede, you drop a little bit. Mentally they are better than us.”

Footballing wise Leicester certainly had the better of it on the night, as they nullified much of Leeds’ threat in transition, but it is hard to disagree with the fact they folded under the atmosphere after conceding the equaliser.

Junior Firpo said before the game that he was expecting a big atmosphere and despite some frustrations at aspects of the performance, the final 10 minutes was Elland Road at its best and Leicester could not deal with it.

Leeds are now just six points behind the Foxes after that result and have made it nine consecutive league wins since the turn of the New Year.

All eyes will now be on Ipswich Town and Southampton again tomorrow with the pressure on them to follow up what Leeds did tonight.
