Sky Sports commentator Don Goodman was full of praise for Leeds United’s shape out of possession in the second half of the win at Leicester City.
Goodman was speaking live on Sky Sports commentary during the Whites’ 1-0 win at the King Power Stadium, where he hailed the display of Daniel Farke’s side after taking the lead.
Leeds entered the game looking to end Leicester’s incredible nine-match winning run in the Championship and duly delivered with an exceptional away performance.
Having dominated the early exchanges in the first half, Leicester then came into the game as Stephy Mavididi and Abdul Fatawu caused chaos in the wide areas.
Leeds, however, got on the front foot at the start of the second half and got their just reward as Georginio Rutter steered home from close range.
Goodman praises Leeds shape
As Leicester began to pile on the pressure in the late stages of the match, Leeds were able to nullify a lot of the threat that was being thrown at them.
Goodman believes this is down to the work-rate and discipline of Leeds’ wingers Crysencio Summerville and Dan James, who were ‘doubling up’ on Leicester’s wide men.
He said: “You can see Leeds doubling up on the two wingers, forcing them inside. It’s excellent shape out of possession.”
Archie Gray and Sam Byram were both too exposed in the first half but there is no doubt that Leeds managed to get the better of Leicester’s two dangermen in the second 45 minutes.
That is a testimony to the work rate of both Summerville and James, who then somehow both still had the engine to get forward and launch counter-attacks.
They may not have got the goals like last week, but two excellent performances.
