Why Max Aarons pursuit could still mean writing is on the wall for Leeds player – opinion

Leeds United came within hours of signing Norwich City right-back Max Aarons earlier this week.

According to Phil Hay of the Athletic, the Whites were looking to have him signed in time for the trip to Birmingham City on Saturday, but were gazumped at the 11th hour by Bournemouth.

Aarons was even in Leeds ready to do a medical but after the Cherries failed in their pursuit of Atalanta’s Joakim Maehle, turned their attentions towards the 23-year-old and stole him from under Daniel Farke’s nose.

Leeds are well stocked in the right-back department but based on how much they were willing to pay for Aarons, there is no doubt he would’ve come in as first choice.

With that in mind, it certainly begs the question as to what that means for Cody Drameh, who had finally looked set for a regular run at Leeds for the first time since joining three years ago.

Writing now surely on the wall for Drameh at Leeds after Aarons capture

Drameh has just 12 months left to run on his deal in West Yorkshire and has had Premier League interest from Luton Town and Burnley, as per the Athletic.

That seems to have cooled down in recent weeks but if Leeds are as keen as it seems to sign a new right-back, then it is hard to see a way back for him at Elland Road.

Drameh has always made it clear that all he wants to do is play regularly and if that is not going to come this season, it probably never will.

After picking up a minor hamstring injury at the worst possible time, Luke Ayling has started the season as first choice at right-back and if Drameh cannot regain his place within the next couple of weeks, an exit before the end of the window feels likely.

Of course, it is not guaranteed that Leeds will look to bring another right-back, but based on their pursuit of Aarons, it does appear as though the writing is on the wall for Drameh.
