Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has claimed he watched Leeds United’s match with Leicester City on Friday.
Klopp was speaking ahead of his side’s FA Cup fifth round tie with Southampton, a side who are pushing alongside Leeds for a place in the automatic promotion spots.
The division’s top four are currently setting a standard that has never been seen before at this level and but for a serious drop off in form, are all expected to surpass the 90-point mark.
Leeds’ clash with Leicester at Elland Road was arguably the biggest of the season so far and it is fair to say that both meetings between the two clubs had all the hallmarks of a Premier League fixture.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Liverpool boss Klopp was left blown away by the ‘intensity’ of the game, before also name dropping West Brom and Ipswich Town as two sides he likes to watch.
Klopp hails Leeds v Leicester intensity
He said: “I love the Championship, I watched Leeds v Leicester last week. Wow. The football intensity in the Championship is absolutely insane. Saw West Brom recently, a real football-playing idea. Ipswich as well. The league is incredibly difficult.”
It was an incredible game at Elland Road on Friday. Leicester went ahead in the first half with their only real chance as Leeds were guilty of fluffing at least three one-on-ones.
The Foxes then took control after the break and should’ve put the game to bed but both Stephy Mavididi and Patson Daka missed key opportunities in order to do so.
Connor Roberts then kick started an incredible comeback in the final 10 minutes with his first goal for the club, in what was a night that will live long in the memory for supporters.
It is no surprise to hear how much Klopp enjoyed watching the game and it certainly has been a season of some top football being played in the Championship.
