Leeds United overtook Southampton into second place in the Championship table last night and while the Saints have a game in hand over us – Simon Jordan would prefer Leeds are promoted.
A 4-0 win over Swansea saw Leeds make it seven Championship wins in a row, while keeping a hugely impressive six clean sheets in that time. It came on the same night, that Southampton were beaten.
A six-point swing, then. Leeds overtook Southampton into second place, while the Saints lost 3-1 at Bristol City. Southampton still have a game in hand, with two points separating the promotion rivals.
Leicester picked up another win, a 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday, to maintain their incredible run and lead at the top of the table. Ipswich have tailed off, winning one league game in the last nine.
So, it does look as if it is going to be between Leeds and Southampton to finish in second place come the end of the season. Jordan told TalkSPORT (14/02, 10.55AM) he’d rather Leeds are promoted.

“Always maintained, one of the most intimidating grounds is Elland Road. One of the best atmospheres is Elland Road. This is a club of significant stature that were out of the Premier League for 17 years.
“A huge club. The scale of that club should warrant being in the Premier League. As a football person, with all due respect to the others, I’d rather see Leeds United in the Premier League than Southampton.”
Simon Jordan would rather Leeds go up over Southampton
The race for second is now hotting up. You’d still back Southampton to win their game in hand, even if they lost last night. A win would see them go a point above Leeds – but we face them on the final day.
It could be a grandstand finish to win second place. Leeds lost 3-1 to Southampton away from home, but it was seen as a bit of an anomaly. At Elland Road, Leeds have been unbeatable, and are unbeaten.
So, as things stand, you might back Leeds to go up automatically. But, anything can happen in England’s second tier – and there is a whole lot of football to play before we find out who gets promoted.
