Leeds United’s seventh League win in a row was a real statement of intent and continued our run of stunning form – but it was made even better as Southampton lost, and Joel Piroe has responded.
Piroe, 24, was handed a surprise start against his old side on Tuesday night – after Patrick Bamford pulled out of the starting XI in the warm-up. Daniel Farke gave an update on Bamford after the game.
Goals from Cree Summerville and Piroe, as well as a Willy Gnonto brace, saw Leeds cruise to three points in a game that never really looked as though Leeds were in doubt of picking up three points.
The win saw Leeds climb into second over Southampton, who were also in action. They picked up a 3-1 loss to Bristol City, despite going into the game 25 games unbeaten. The wheels possibly, coming off.
What it does mean, is that Leeds sit in second with two more points on the board than Russell Martin’s side – though, the Saints have a game in hand. The race for promotion is really hotting up, this season.

Leeds star Joel Piroe responds as Southampton suffer defeat
Another win for Leicester does suggest that the Foxes will stay first come the end of the Championship season. They beat Sheffield Wednesday, 2-0. Under-pressure Ipswich play tonight, taking on Millwall.
The Tractor Boys have dipped in form, winning just one of their last nine Championship matches – which included a 4-0 loss to Leeds. Joel Piroe was asked about the table, and Southampton’s loss on LUTV.
“Of course we see [results and the table], we’re happy because it [Southampton’s loss] makes the chance [of promotion] for us bigger. But we know what we’ve got to do, so we just carry on going.”
