Why Leeds United could soon benefit from new Everton takeover and rake in £11m fee

There has been a bit of a rivalry between Everton and Leeds United in the last few years but the new takeover incoming at Goodison Park could actually end up helping Leeds.

Whether it be battling relegation in the Premier League, Everton’s pursuit of Wilfried Gnonto or the Toffees being deducted points for breaking the rules in a season where Leeds went down, a rivalry has formed.

Everton look as if they are set to be embroiled in another relegation battle during the 2024-25 season after a poor start to the campaign. Sean Dyche is under increasing pressure as manager at Goodison Park.

For Everton fans, it has been a testing time. They have gone from European possibilities to candidates for relegation in the space of a few years. But this week, Everton fans received some much better news.

BBC say Everton are set to be the subject of a takeover by The Friedkin Group, the same enterprise that currently owns Italian giants Roma. That takeover might just help Leeds in raking in a near-£11m fee.

Leeds may now have chance to finally sell Jack Harrison

Harrison was one of eight players to use Victor Orta’s loan release clause in 2023. Since then, four of the eight have left permanently in the form of Robin Koch, Marc Roca, Diego Llorente and Luis Sinisterra.

Two are back at Elland Road in Brenden Aaronson and Max Wober while Harrison and Rasmus Kristensen had the option of another loan. Both took that opportunity as Harrison rejoined Everton on loan.

Everton’s takeover though, means Leeds have a chance to finally offload the winger. The YEP say that Leeds are likely to recoup much of the £11m they paid Man City to sign him back in the summer of 2021.

Do Everton actually want to sign Harrison from Leeds?

While Everton may now have the financial capability to sign Harrison and turn his loan into a permanent deal, would they want to? Judging by this season’s form for Everton, they may rather look elsewhere.

Last season, Harrison endured his worst season in the Premier League in terms of numbers. Just six goal involvements in the Premier League compared to 16 the first season, nine the second and 12 the next.

This season, he is yet to score or assist in England’s top tier and actually, he has failed to do so since a 2-2 draw with Spurs in February last term. Everton can now afford Harrison, but they might not want him.
