Leeds United’s entire starting XI deserve praise for their performances in the 4-0 win over Swansea City last night.
Daniel Farke refused to commit either way as to whether it was Leeds’ best display of the season so far, but his side were a complete class above their opponents in South Wales all night.
Crysencio Summerville and Joel Piroe were both on the scoresheet inside the opening 10 minutes to put Leeds in control, while Willy Gnonto then rounded off proceedings with goals either side of half-time.
Piroe was actually a late inclusion in Leeds’ starting line-up after Patrick Bamford was forced to withdraw in the warm-up due to injury, and he more than took his chance.
In fact, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds officials Angus Kinnear, Gretar Steinsson and Adam Underwood were all spotted given him a standing ovation when he was substituted late on.
Piroe receives standing ovation from Leeds officials
Kinnear is of course the managing director, Steinsson the technical director and Underwood head of football operations, in a newly revamped backroom team.
Steinsson – who only arrived in the summer from Tottenham – was actually the driving force behind Piroe’s arrival in the summer, going directly to Swansea’s owners in order to negotiate a deal.

With that in mind, no one will take more pleasure than him at Leeds in seeing Piroe perform to the best of his ability, considering he was the club’s most expensive and marquee arrival.
Prior to last night, Piroe had not started a single Championship match in 2024 and so has had to be patient in order to get his opportunity again amid Leeds’ fine form.
But he more than took his chance last night to impress and Farke spoke extremely highly of him in his post-match press conference at full-time.
