Which Leeds players are on international duty, and when do they play? Including £6m signing and Welsh duo

The first international break of the season is upon us with Leeds United having a number of players set to represent their nation.

The Whites lost a host of their international players during the summer in the wake of their relegation but still have several on their books after a busy window of incomings.

It could prove to be a pivotal week for many Leeds players’ chances of playing in EURO 2024 as country’s get set to continue their qualification campaign.

Leeds could have as many as six members of their squad at next summer’s tournament in Germany, but there is plenty of work to do to ensure they get there.

So, with that in mind, here is a look at the first team players that have jetted off to represent their nation.

Joe Rodon, Ethan Ampadu – Wales

Daniel Farke currently has three Wales internationals in his squad but only two are available for selection this time around due to Dan James‘ injury.

Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu are first in action on Thursday 7 September at 7.45pm as they host South Korea in a friendly.

That is then followed by a make-or-break trip to bottom of the group Latvia on Monday, where nothing less than a win will suffice. Again, that will kick-off at 7.45pm.

Glen Kamara – Finland

This international break will be good for Glen Kamara with his two-minute cameo off the bench on Saturday the first time he has played since mid-June.

Like Rodon and Ampadu, this international window will prove crucial to Kamara’s hopes of playing in next summer’s EUROs, as table-topping Finland face matches against second and third place in their group respectively.

Finland first make the trip to Kazakhstan on Thursday 7 September, kick-off 3pm, before hosting Denmark on Sunday, kick-off 5pm.

Wilfried Gnonto – Italy

Wilfried Gnonto had been worried about his international prospects playing in the Championship but that has not stopped him from being called up to the Italy squad.

Italy currently sit third in Group C with three points from their opening two matches, and know that wins in their next two will put them in a good position.

Gnonto is first in action on Saturday away at North Macedonia, kick-off 7.45pm, before hosting Ukraine on Tuesday, with the game getting underway at the same time.

Ilia Gruev – Bulgaria

Like the aforementioned Kamara, this international break will also give new signing Ilia Gruev the chance to get some much-needed minutes into the legs.

Their first match is a friendly against Iran on Thursday 7 September, kick-off 5pm, before then making the trip to Montenegro on Sunday as they bid to keep their faint hopes of qualifying for the EUROs alive, kick-off also 5pm.

Charlie Cresswell – England U21s

Charlie Cresswell and his England U21s teammates will be looking to continue the momentum from lifting the EUROs in the summer as they make the trip to Luxembourg.

It is the Young Lions’ only match of the break as they bid to get their EURO 2025 qualifying campaign off to a good start, with the match taking place on Monday 11 September, kick-off 5pm.

Leo Hjelde – Norway U21s

Like Cresswell, Leo Hjelde will also be getting his U21s EURO 2025 qualifying campaign underway this month with Norway.

He will first be in action on Thursday 7 September away at San Marino, kick-off 5pm, before then hosting Latvia at the same time on Tuesday 12 September.
