Tottenham Hotspur do not have the option to recall Joe Rodon from his loan spell at Leeds United in January.
That is according to Phil Hay of the Athletic, who reports that a ‘source with knowledge’ of the situation says Tottenham did not include a January recall clause in the deal that took him to Elland Road.
Fears have risen this week over a return to Spurs for Rodon after they were plunged into a defensive crisis during their 4-1 defeat against Chelsea on Monday.
Micky van de Ven picked up what appeared to be a serious hamstring injury, while Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie were both sent off. The former will be banned for three matches.
That leaves just Eric Dier as the only fit senior centre-back, though Daniel Farke did claim in his press conference on Thursday that he would be staying at Leeds regardless.
Spurs do not have recall clause in Rodon loan
And Hay has backed up what Farke said on Thursday in his latest article for the Athletic, by confirming that Spurs do not have the option to bring him back to North London.
This will come as relieving news to Leeds supporters as Rodon has developed into a key player since his move from Spurs, forming a superb partnership with Pascal Struijk.
Rodon has got better and better by the week and his importance to the side was highlighted during Leeds‘ 3-1 defeat at Southampton in September, when he was named on the bench.
With speculation already starting ahead of January as to who might leave, it is good for fans that they do not have to worry about what could happen with Rodon.
Hopefully he can continue his fine form throughout the season, and Leeds end up making his stay a permanent one, whether promotion is secured or not.
