Daniel Farke’s contract should not be a subject of debate this summer. The Leeds United manager has delivered promotion and secured Premier League survival all inside three seasons.
The German has built one of the strongest records of any modern head coach at Elland Road, and Ethan Ampadu’s latest comments simply reinforce what the evidence already shows.
When Leeds appointed Farke on a four-year contract in 2023, the objectives were obvious. Return the club to the Premier League and make sure they stayed there.
GIVE DANIEL FARKE A NEW DEAL, NOW!
Leeds United are mathematically safe from relegation.
He has achieved both. Farke guided Leeds back to the Premier League before overseeing a campaign that ended with a 14th-place finish and safety secured with matches to spare.
Leeds also helped end the recent trend of promoted clubs immediately returning to the Championship, proving they belong at this level. While Sunderland reached Europe, Leeds’ 14th position deserves praise.
The Leeds dressing room appears firmly behind him
Support from players is not everything, but it matters when judging a manager’s influence. Farke appears to have plenty of it if Ampadu’s latest comments are anything to go by.
Speaking about the manager’s future to The Athletic, Ampadu described Farke as “the best” and said he was “very grateful for everything Daniel has done” for him.
“His conversations are separate to mine. It’s one I feel is the best. For me, making my decision, everything else influences, but making my decision was based on me,” Ampadu said.

“I am very grateful for everything Daniel has done for me and, for the club to progress, that’s what everyone wants,” the Leeds skipper added, with Farke’s long-term future at Elland Road still in doubt.
Those comments came only days after Ampadu committed his own future to Leeds until 2030. The backing does not stop there. Noah Okafor publicly rated Farke above Antonio Conte and Max Allegri.
They are two managers with major honours on their CVs. It is difficult to find stronger evidence that players believe in the environment Farke has created.
Leeds were right not to sack Farke when pressure mounted
That belief looked far less certain last November. Farke came under serious pressure after a difficult run and there were genuine questions about whether he would survive.

Leeds stuck with him. A remarkable comeback from 2-0 down against Man City changed the mood around the club before a victory over Chelsea helped spark a run that ultimately transformed the season.
Farke adapted, Leeds responded and the club’s hierarchy were rewarded for keeping their nerve.
It is easy to forget how different the conversation looked at the time. Looking back now, the decision to remain patient appears one of the smartest calls Leeds made all season.
The numbers place Farke among Leeds’ best modern managers
The strongest argument is the simplest one. Farke wins football matches.
Daniel Farke can guide Leeds United into Europe by 2028 – DISCUSS 🪄
He became the first Leeds manager to record 57 victories in his first 100 games, edging past Marcelo Bielsa’s total of 56. His overall win percentage also compares favourably with most modern Leeds managers and places him among the most successful figures to occupy the dugout in the club’s recent history.
That context makes the latest contract discussion feel straightforward. Graham Smyth expects Farke to sign a new deal, and it is difficult to see a compelling argument against it.
Leeds wanted a manager who could restore Premier League status. They wanted somebody capable of establishing the club in the division. They wanted stability after years of upheaval. Farke has delivered every one of those objectives.
The comments from Ampadu and Okafor show he has the dressing room behind him. The results show he has earned the board’s trust. Extending his contract should be one of the easiest decisions Leeds make this summer.
