What Daniel Farke has told his Leeds United squad to do this week as Manor Solomon rehabs at Thorp Arch

Daniel Farke has once again been left without the majority of his Leeds United squad this week.

Just like in the September international break, no Championship club has more players away with their respective countries than Leeds this month.

That is actually made all the more impressive when you consider five of Leeds’ internationals in Ethan Ampadu, Ilia Gruev, Manor Solomon, Dan James and Max Wober are currently on the sidelines through injury.

Mateo Joseph was the first Leeds player in international action on Thursday night as he netted a first half hattrick on his full debut for Spain U21s in a 4-3 win over Kazakhstan.

Ao Tanaka’s Japan also played, but Farke will be relieved he did not even get on the bench. Joe Rodon, Karl Darlow, Junior Firpo, Brenden Aaronson, Wilfried Gnonto and several fringe youngsters are set to follow in the coming days.

What Farke has told Leeds squad to do this week

With so many players away from Thorp Arch, Farke will have been limited in what sort of training session he can put on this week.

Particularly in that final week before the break, Leeds have also had an extremely busy run of matches, which was made all the more difficult due to the amount of injuries.

With that in mind, Farke has allowed the non-internationals in his squad to have the full week off since last Friday’s 2-2 draw at Sunderland, according to Leeds Live.

That means all of Illan Meslier, Jayden Bogle, Pascal Struijk, Joe Rothwell, Patrick Bamford, Joel Piroe, Largie Ramazani, Alex Cairns, Sam Byram, Joe Gelhardt, Isaac Schmidt and James Debayo have been given some time to recharge the batteries.

You would imagine five, potentially even six of those players will be starting against Sheffield United next week, and so that feels like a wise decision to ensure a good chunk of the team will be fresh.

After his error at Sunderland, Meslier is someone who will certainly benefit from that time off, though more so mentally than physically.

Given Rothwell went from playing a handful of minutes to almost two 90s in the space of a few days, the rest will have done him good as well.

Considering a couple of weeks ago he was nursing an injury, the break also came at a good time for Struijk, while Ramazani very much earned one too.

Manor Solomon among Leeds quartet at Thorp Arch this week

As mentioned, five of Leeds’ internationals were unable to go away with their respective countries this week, but unlike the rest of the squad, they haven’t been given time off.

Solomon was actually named in Israel’s squad for their two matches this month, but was among the quartet who have been at Thorp Arch doing rehab.

Ampadu, James and Wober were also there, while it is less than a week since Gruev underwent surgery on his knee injury.

Farke is hopeful Solomon and James will be ready against the Blades, and this extra period of recovery will have only enhanced their chances.
