Daniel Farke made quite the bold claim to convince the Leeds United hierarchy to sign Sam Byram in the summer transfer window, with the club concerned about his injury record.
That is according to a report from The Athletic, which suggests that the Leeds boss insisted that he had the potential to be as good as any left-back in the Championship this season.
Daniel Farke helped convince Leeds hierarchy to bring Sam Byram back
Sam Byram has proved to be an inspired signing for Leeds. There was a lot of worry when it emerged that he was working at Thorp Arch again as a host of players headed for the exit.

Leeds insisted that Byram was only training with the club to regain his fitness. But as pre-season wore on and the 30-year-old featured more and more in the friendlies, it became apparent that he was becoming a player Daniel Farke was taking a serious look at. And eventually, a one-year contract was signed.
Byram has gone on to be outstanding addition to the Leeds ranks. And Farke can definitely feel that he has been vindicated for putting his faith in the defender in the summer.
The Athletic reports that the Leeds hierarchy were concerned about Byram’s injury record when he came in in the window. However, Farke insisted that if he could make it through pre-season, he would be as good as any left-back in the division.
Whites boss vindicated for faith in defender
Unfortunately, it is important to still not get too carried away. Byram has not managed to make 20 league appearances in a single season since his first spell at Leeds.
However, the early signs are incredibly promising. He has already played 15 times in the Championship this season.
He did come off with an injury in the final game before the international break. However, Leeds hope that Byram will be back quickly as the problem is not believed to be too serious.
It feels too soon to suggest that Leeds should look at a potential contract extension for the defender. But it says everything about how good he has been that most Leeds fans would be absolutely delighted to see him sticking around beyond this season on current form.
