Crysencio Summerville was crowned The PFA Championship Player of the Season on Tuesday night at the annual PFA awards in Manchester, and he discussed his time at Leeds on the red carpet.

Summerville, who has already been crowned The Championship Player of the Season, was handed the PFA award last night after his move to West Ham, which has set the Hammers back an initial £25m fee.

A fee that could rise to £34m with add-ons. The Dutchman scored 21 goals for Leeds last season as well as laying on a further 10 in assists and was also picked in The PFA Championship Team of the Year.

One of four Leeds players picked in the team at the Opera House in Manchester last night, along with Ethan Ampadu, Illan Meslier and Archie Gray. Phil Foden was awarded the PFA Player of the Season.

Summerville spoke about Leeds on red carpet at PFA awards

The 22-year-old spent four years at Leeds, initially joining the club as an 18-year-old from Feyenoord in 2020. Coming through the U21 side after costing a bargain £1.3m fee, he finally broke into the side.

Impressing as a fringe player in 2022-23 under Jesse Marsch and scoring four Premier League goals, Summerville became a key player last term and is now at West Ham. He thanked Leeds for his time there.

Speaking to Greatest Hits Radio, he said: “They took good care of me. I came as a little boy, 18 years old, I’m happy what happened there, helped me a lot. But happy to be in the Premier League with West Ham.”

Leeds desperately need to replace Summerville before deadline

It’s not as if Leeds are lacking in funds to bring in a replacement for the Dutch talent. A huge £138m has been made in player sales after the losses of Georginio Rutter, Archie Gray, Summerville and plenty more.

Leeds are yet to bring in any replacements for the likes of Rutter and Summerville. Sunderland’s Jack Clarke is the most-obvious target given he is a former Elland Road star, though he would cost a £20m fee.

Graeme Bailey has told LeedsUnited.News that Clarke would be keen on a move to Elland Road, and Ian Harte posted a cryptic tweet on X on Tuesday night given his Leeds connections, and as Clarke’s agent.
