Once again, Leeds United drop points in the race for Championship promotion. And once again it’s Illan Meslier’s who’s to blame.
Illan Meslier has been the talk of much of the season for Leeds United, particularly when the going is tough because a lot of the time, in the last few months especially, Meslier has made some howlers leading to opposition goals.
In games against Sunderland and Hull City to name just a couple, Meslier has let his side down. Despite that, Daniel Farke has always defended Meslier. But there might be no more defence for the Frenchman.
In Leeds United’s 2-2 draw with Swansea City, both of the Welsh club’s goals were at fault of Meslier: the first one no doubt, the second one he could’ve done a lot better, though many might take pity on the 25-year-old.
Often times, players can be seen fuming at Meslier: against Hull City earlier in the season, Joe Rodon was visibly fuming with Meslier for his mistake, though it wasn’t Rodon against Swansea.

Ao Tanaka disbelief after Illan Meslier blunder in Leeds United 2-2 Swansea City
After the first goal went in on the 64th minute mark, there was a collective sigh among the Elland Road faithful and another second sigh at Meslier who fumbled a catch, palming it into the path of scorer Harry Darling.
Cleary, it was Meslier’s fault. And after the goal went in, midfielder Ao Tanaka was seen putting his hand to his mouth in pure disbelief at the error, much like the fans in the stadium would’ve done as it looked like something any other Championship goalkeeper would pull off with ease.
Leeds have now dropped into 2nd place of the Championship table after both Sheffield United and Burnley won their games following the March international break.

Leeds United’s stance on Illan Meslier’s Elland Road future
Throughout the season, Leeds United fans have questioned Meslier’s performances, and many largely agree that if Leeds are promoted in the end, then Farke will simply have to sign a new no.1 goalkeeper.
And earlier in March, it was revealed to Leeds United News that Farke plans to axing Meslier in the summer transfer window with the likes of Aaron Ramsdale on the club’s transfer radar, whilst others like Caoimhin Kelleher have been mentioned.
If Farke was undecided about Meslier before Saturday’s game against Swansea City then his mind is surely made up now – he may have to go.
Leeds return to action with a trip to Luton Town on Saturday afternoon.
