‘We’ll discuss’… Manager says he is now going to hold talks over whether to sign 20-year-old Leeds player

Leeds United are looking to use the January transfer window as a way of handing some youngsters first team minutes.

Darko Gyabi became the first member of Leeds’ U21s side to earn himself a loan move, joining the Whites’ FA Cup fourth round opponents Plymouth Argyle until the end of the season.

Gyabi was thrown straight in from the start on Saturday for his new club, and the expectation is that the likes of Leo Hjelde and Lewis Bate will follow. Whether they have futures at Leeds remains to be seen, but these loan spells will be crucical.

Another player who could also head out of the exit door is Kris Moore, who has been at Hibernian over the last week or so on somewhat of a trial basis.

Moore flew out to the Middle East to train and play in a friendly against FC Servette, but has since returned to Leeds.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Hibs boss Nick Montgomery says they will now hold internal talks over whether to push through with a move.

He said: “At the minute, Lewis Miller is away with the national team. He could be away for six or seven games if they’re successful and get to the final.

“It was important we had the opportunity to bring him in. He’ll go back to Leeds and we’ll have a discussion. If I believe he can help the club moving forward, that we’ll discuss.

“Kanayo Megwa came back from his loan spell this week and I’ve been really impressed with him at right-back. Kris is more of a centre-back that has been playing right-back.

“There could be an opportunity or we could decide to stay with what we’ve got in the building and keep Kanayo Megwa from going back out on loan because he’s our player and the staff have been impressed with him this week in terms of the way that he’s training.”

Having progressed through the ranks as a centre-back, Moore has played a lot at right-back this season, which is a position Hibs are reportedly looking to recruit in. Chris Cadden is on the sidelines due to an Achilles problem, while Lewis Miller is part of Australia’s squad for the Asian Cup.

Hibs’ interest in Moore was reported as early as the second day of the transfer window, but are still yet to decide on whether to officially bring him to the club.

Hopefully Moore has done enough to earn that loan move as he is now 20-years-old and in need of senior football to take that next step forward in his development.
