19-year-old Leeds United man may be about to land the ideal move for his career

Leeds United made some mistakes with the handling of their young players in the summer.

Several of them were attracting interest from both in the EFL and abroad, but instead Leeds opted to keep them and they have since gone onto play U21s football, a level they are clearly too good for.

Leo Hjelde and Lewis Bate are among those who fall under that category, with the former wanted by Salernitana, and the latter on the shortlist of EFL clubs.

And another who has seen his development stagnate in the last few months is Darko Gyabi, who was wanted on loan by Swansea City and Fleetwood Town on deadline day.

Neither of those moves ended up materialising but Gyabi is now attracting interest from Championship side Plymouth Argyle, and Leeds have the chance to get his career back on track.

Plymouth move would be ideal for Gyabi

This season had looked as though it could be a potential breakthrough year for Gyabi, after a fantastic campaign in the U21s following a £5 million move from Manchester City.

However, Gyabi failed to take his chance in a cup tie against Shrewsbury Town in August, and after being hooked at half-time of that match, has played just one minute since.

Gyabi has since been back in the U21s but despite his first team struggles, that is a level he is already too good for with some of the attributes he possesses.

The 19-year-old shone for England’s U20s side in the World Cup last summer and the manager of that side Ian Foster, has just recently taken over at Plymouth from Steven Schumacher.

With that in mind, Foster clearly knows Gyabi well and so could be the manager that helps unlock the potential he has shown at academy level, in senior football.

In the opening 10 days of the window, Plymouth have lost key midfield duo Finn Azaz and Luke Cundle, meaning they are in the market for replacements. Should Gyabi move, he would not be short of minutes, which is exactly what he needs.
