Darko Gyabi and Archie Gray are set to feature in Daniel Farke’s first team plans at Leeds United this season.
That is according to Phil Hay of the Athletic, who reports both are now expected to be push through into senior action after impressive campaigns for the U21s last term.
As per the report, though, Leeds will also be looking to add some experience into that area to supplement the likes of Gyabi and Gray and avoid pressuring their development.
Midfield is an area that is likely to see a major overhaul at Leeds with Weston McKennie having already left, Marc Roca set to follow and Tyler Adams attracting Premier League interest.
It is also unclear what will happen with Adam Forshaw’s contract and so with that in mind, Gray and Gyabi are now set to come into the thinking of Farke even if players come in.
Gyabi and Gray set for Leeds first team role
Gyabi has now been at Leeds for 12 months after joining for £5 million from Manchester City after Kalvin Phillips went the other way.
The 19-year-old is extremely highly rated and shone on the international stage with England U20s in the summer at the EUROs in Argentina.
Gyabi can play both as a holding or box-to-box midfielder and particularly excels in possession thanks to his quick feet and excellent passing range.
Gray, meanwhile, is slightly younger than Gyabi at 17 but is regarded as one of the best talents to come out of Leeds’ academy in a long time.
He can play either as a number eight or 10 and has been playing in age groups way beyond his age for almost all of his youth career.
