Sam Greenwood has handed parent club Leeds United a favour after scoring the winning goal in Middlesbrough’s 1-0 win over Leicester City.
As per Sky Sports, Greenwood netted seven minutes from time to hand Boro a late win over the Foxes, as they suffered their second consecutive Championship defeat.
Leicester had been 14 points clear going into last week’s clash with Leeds at the King Power Stadium on Friday night, having won 13 of their opening 14 matches.
However, Leeds were able to take all three points from the East Midlands as Georginio Rutter’s second half goal was enough to split the two sides.
Having won all of their away matches prior to today, Leicester will have been hoping to get back on track straight away, but fell to back-to-back defeats.
Greenwood helps parent club Leeds with free-kick
With Daniel Farke having not seen a place for him in the squad this season, Greenwood was sent on a season-long-loan to Boro in order to get some game time.
And so far, Greenwood has been really enjoying his spell at the Riverside, having scored four goals in his last six appearances for Michael Carrick’s side.
However, earlier this afternoon may have just been the best moment so far, as he netted an inch perfect free-kick past Mads Hermansen to hand Boro a massive three points against the league leaders.
Leeds will be thanking Greenwood for his contribution as he helped the Whites cut the gap to just eight points now, a whole lot healthier than it looked just a few weeks ago.
Leeds themselves were able to pick up a third consecutive league win after defeating Plymouth Argyle 2-1 thanks to goals from Dan James and Joel Piroe.
