Leeds United appear to be targeting the vast majority of the Welsh national team this month.
With Ethan Ampadu, Dan James and Joe Rodon all already at the club and enjoying superb seasons, Leeds have been linked with signing another six in their quest to bolster the squad.
Both full-back positions, central defence if Charlie Cresswell leaves and a creative attacker are where Leeds are looking to strengthen, though nothing is seemingly imminent at this stage.
Connor Roberts, Chris Mepham, Neco Williams, David Brooks, Kieffer Moore and Ben Davies are the Welshmen Leeds have been linked with. Reports of Leeds’ interest in the latter certainly came as a surprise this morning.
Davies would represent a real coup for Leeds at this level, having played 90 minutes in nine consecutive Premier League matches up until Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Manchester United.
The 30-year-old won particular praise on Match of the Day back in November for his display in a 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest, with BBC pundit Danny Murphy labelling him as a manager’s dream.
Leeds target Davies mentality praised
He said: “He’s got the mentality you love as a manager because he doesn’t play all the time. When he’s called upon he’s ready and never complains. He’s a very intelligent footballer. They’ve got [Destiny] Udogie missing, Van de Ven’s out – he’s got a huge role to play for Spurs.”
Davies’ recent regular role in the team came as a result of Micky Van de Ven’s long injury absence. Despite primarily playing as a left-back during his career, he has filled in superbly in central defence.
With that in mind, it feels unlikely Spurs would want to sanction a mid-season exit for Davies, particularly given how much they have suffered with injuries throughout the season.
However, following Luke Ayling’s move to Middlesbrough, Leeds have lost a huge character in the dressing room and so clearly Daniel Farke sees Davies as someone who can come in to fill that void, as well as have a major impact on the pitch.
It will be interesting to see if Spurs’ stance softens somewhat over the next couple of weeks, but it really would be a big surprise.
