Leeds United sit in second with 15 Championship games to play after Southampton suffered defeat on Tuesday night – and Ian Harte has given his verdict on the club’s chances of getting promoted.

The win over Swansea was made all the more sweeter when the news of Southampton’s unbeaten run of 25 games had come to an end. Bristol City picked up a surprise 3-1 win over Russell Martin’s Saints.

Southampton still have a game in hand and plenty of pundits have had their say on who joins Leicester in the top two, and gaining automatic promotion to the Premier League. The Saints have a game in hand.

Neil Warnock says he’d love to see Leeds get promoted and had praise for Daniel Farke – while the outspoken Simon Jordan would prefer Leeds go up, over Southampton. It is going to be an exciting race.

Former Leeds defender Harte – who is now a football agent – spoke to the No Tippy Tappy Football pod this week. He gave his verdict when asked if he thinks Leeds will gain promotion to the Premier League.

“Southampton went on a run of 25 games unbeaten. There will be twists and turns from now until the end. Three teams, Premier League squads, strength in depth, they should be the three that go up.

“We will have to wait and see. A team like Leeds, with that fanbase and momentum, they’re in with a good shout of getting back into the Premier League,” Harte said, when discussing who gets promoted.

It is fair to say that a lot could hinge on tonight’s game between Southampton and West Brom, over at The Hawthorns. Southampton are under pressure after losing last time out, losing their unbeaten run.

Failure to win and it gives Leeds a chance to go four or five points clear, and instantly wipe out the game in hand that Southampton currently boast over Leeds. It is a huge clash tonight, Leeds fans watching.
