Leeds United have been linked with a whole host of defenders after the losses of both Djed Spence and Luke Ayling – and David Prutton says two Premier League full-backs could secure promotion.

Daniel Farke wanted a left-back signing even before the window began, and since then, Ayling has gone to Middlesbrough – pretty much ending his eight-year spell at Leeds. Spence, returned to Tottenham.

It is claimed that his attitude behind the scenes contributed to Farke saying he needed to go. He has since moved to Serie A side Genoa. Leeds have been linked with an incredible amount of players.

Two of those, are Burnley’s Connor Roberts and today, Luton left-back Ryan Giles – after Farke was asked about Giles in last week’s press conference. Leeds certainly need signings on each side.

Discussing what Leeds need to do in the window with a fortnight remaining, former Whites player Prutton told the Sky Sports Transfer Talk podcast that Giles and Roberts take Leeds close to the top.

“Chuck in Connor Roberts and Ryan Giles – players that have performed at this level who aren’t getting a sniff at their clubs – you could transform the foundations of a team there that gets you over the line.”

David Prutton urges Leeds two sign two Premier League players

Giles and Roberts would be exactly what Leeds need. Giles is a player that is still young and the left-back area is a position that Leeds have needed to strengthen for years – since Charlie Taylor departed.

Last season, he got 12 assists on loan at Middlesbrough in the Championship and that kind of attacking quality – combined with his defensive nous, would be superb business. A talent, and long-term solution.

With Roberts, a different story. At 28, a player with 35 goals and assists in 173 Championship games and another Welsh star, adding to the growing contingent at Elland Road. Both would be wonderful signings.
