Ally McCoist has shared his prediction on Leeds United and the race for automatic promotion to the Premier League.
The Whites are currently apart of an intense four-horse race alongside Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Southampton for a place in the top two and an immediate return to the top-flight.
Following a 1-1 draw at Huddersfield Town on Saturday, Leeds’ nine-match winning run in the league came to an end, and with that, also second place as Ipswich themselves made it five wins in a row.
Just a matter of weeks ago it had looked as though it was three teams playing for one spot, but after Leicester’s run of three defeats in a row, it is now very much four for two.
Speaking on talkSPORT this morning, McCoist still believes that Leicester will hang onto their place in the top two, with Leeds joining them in winning promotion automatically.
McCoist backs Leicester and Leeds
He said: “Corr, I think Leicester will hang on and I’ve got to say we had a good conversation you [Jeff Stelling] and I about Southampton, I was really impressed with them up at Liverpool for 45 minutes, an hour. They had a great result away from home.
“But I think Leeds’s home support might see them through. It’s a brilliant league, it’s such a tough, tough one to call. But I think if you’re asking me right now I’ll go with the two Ls, Leeds and Leicester.”
It was just last night that pundit Jamie Carragher also made his prediction for promotion, as he expects all three of the relegated sides to win promotion this season.
However, Ipswich certainly do not look like they will be going anywhere anytime soon, and are very much over the blip they had between Christmas and the end of January.
Having won nine matches in a row, Leeds know that they will have to put together a similar run of form between now and the end of the season for promotion, due to the standard of all four teams.
