Daniel Farke has shared how Leeds United’s players were feeling in the dressing room after today’s draw at Huddersfield Town.
The Whites were only able to return back to Elland Road with a point after being held to a 1-1 draw against a Huddersfield side who were reduced to 10 men just before the interval.
Substitute Michal Helik had given the home side the lead just before Jonathan Hogg’s red card, with Patrick Bamford equalising midway through the second half to earn a point.
Leeds were a long way from their best throughout the match and to have only come away with a point after playing against 10 men for so long will have been hugely frustrating.
Speaking in his post-match press conference after the game, Farke says he had to ‘lift the mood’ in the dressing room with the squad taking a draw as if it was a loss.
Farke says Huddersfield draw felt like a loss
He said: “I need to lift the mood in the dressing room. It was really quiet and it looked like a loss, which is a sign of how far we have come. I like this ambition and this attitude. But it’s important not to dwell on it. Sometimes a point is a good point.”
Despite playing against 10 men for so long Leeds did not actually create much in terms of chances, with Crysencio Summerville coming the closest to winning the game.
Leeds were far too predictable in a lot of their play and in the end, the only tactic seemed to be to get the ball to Summerville and ask him to create something, which he didn’t do on an off day for him.
Farke made plenty of changes in order to force a winning goal and one of them certainly worked in Connor Roberts, though not moving Archie Gray into midfield could’ve been seen as a mistake.
Leeds simply now have to pick themselves up and go again for another three big matches before the international break against sides who will be fighting like Huddersfield today.
