Huddersfield Town midfielder David Kasumu says there is an ‘extra edge’ going into today’s match with Leeds United.
The Whites make the short trip across West Yorkshire looking to make it 10 league wins in a row and become just the third team to do so after Burnley last season, and Aston Villa in 2018/19.
Town’s new manager André Breitenreiter has already added fuel to the fire ahead of the fixture this afternoon, stating in his first press conference the Terries are a bigger club in Germany than Leeds.
Breitenreiter will be taking charge of his first home match as Huddersfield boss and they will be more than up for it given the scoreline back in the meeting at Elland Road in October.
Speaking to Yorkshire Live on Thursday ahead of the match, Huddersfield’s Kasmus acknowledged what a ‘quality’ team Leeds are but is ready to fight for the three points.
Kasumu previews Huddersfield vs Leeds
He said: “These sort of games, they just have that little bit [of an] extra edge, because it’s a local derby. We’ll go to the game as we do with any other game with the belief and determination to try and win the game.
“They’ve been doing well this season, everyone knows their quality, what they have and what they bring. They’re a good side of course, but we can’t go into the game fearing anyone. We will give 100 per cent, and hopefully we can get the three points.”

Leeds will certainly be looking for a similar result and performance as the one at Elland Road, where an attacking trio of Georginio Rutter, Crysencio Summerville and Dan James just tore them apart in a 4-1 win.
However, it is hard to see Huddersfield setting up like that again and with it being on their home soil, with a new manager, it is likely to be a far more difficult game this time around.
That said, hopefully the likes of Rutter, Summerville and co are feeling a little refreshed having been handed somewhat of a rest in the FA Cup at Chelsea.
