New Huddersfield Town manager Andre Breitenreiter’s first home match in charge of his new club will be against Leeds United.
Breitenreiter was speaking to the press for the first time since his appointment last week in what is his first full week as manager of the Terriers ahead of his week’s trip to Watford.
The 50-year-old will be taking charge of a side still very much in the battle to beat the drop despite an upturn in form under caretaker boss Jon Worthington, as they sit two points above the bottom three.
And despite their predicament, Breitenreiter couldn’t help but aim a cheeky dig at Leeds at the first opportunity, as he looks to build up tension ahead of the West Yorkshire encounter in nine days’ time.
Via Huddersfield Town’s YouTube channel, Breitenreiter was asked by the media how well known the club are back in Germany, with his answer including a subtle little jibe towards Leeds.

He said: “Yes I read the newspaper yesterday and they told everyone about Huddersfield and me. Because of David Wagner, the promotion and two years in the Premier League, many people know about Huddersfield, more than about Leeds.”
Both sides will have a German in the dugout next weekend with Daniel Farke, of course, in charge of Leeds and doing an incredible job at present.
Farke has guided Leeds to 69 points from their 33 matches so far this season which is just about enough for the top two, with the Whites having won eight consecutive league matches.
He was also crowned the Championship’s manager of the month for January, the second time he has won the award during his time at the club. Regardless of what happens in tomorrow night’s match against Leicester City, Leeds will be full of confidence for their trip to Huddersfield.
Leeds beat the Terriers 4-1 back in the return fixture at Elland Road and a similar result would be nice next weekend to remind Breitenreiter of the quality the Whites possess.
