Brenden Aaronson has admitted he endured a ‘tough’ first season at Leeds United.
Speaking in an interview with MLS Soccer, Aaronson opened up on the difficulties he has faced since moving to Elland Road, before explaining how the current international camp with USA has enabled him to move on.
Aaronson made the switch to Leeds just over 12 months ago in a huge £25 million deal from Red Bull Salzburg, joining almost immediately after the Whites stayed up on the final day.
Following a promising start to life at the club, Aaronson struggled with the physicality of the Premier League, scoring just once all season in a 3-0 win over Chelsea in August.
The 22-year-old played a regular role as Leeds were relegated to the Championship and is now expected to depart after just one year in West Yorkshire.
Aaronson admits he has found it ‘tough’ at Leeds
Aaronson is said to have a relegation release clause in his contract close to that of what Leeds paid for him in the last summer transfer window.
He has already spoken on how his future is not something he is looking to address right now, but has acknowledged how difficult he has found it at Leeds.
He said: “It’s been a long season. It’s been tough in a lot of things. But I mean, coming here and being with the guys, it’s great. I’m really enjoying it. We’re having a great time as a group.
“And yeah, we’re looking forward to defending our title and then going back and winning another one.”
It has been reported Aaronson is already considering his options regarding a summer exit, with Premier League and Bundesliga clubs interested.
Towards the end of the season, it began to become a toxic environment for Aaronson at Leeds and a permanent move away feels like the best outcome here.
