Leeds United midfielder Brenden Aaronson is attracting interest from the German Bundesliga after it was confirmed he has a relegation release clause in his contract.
That is according to 90min.com, who report the clause in Aaronson’s deal stands at around £25 million and clubs in Germany are keeping tabs on his situation.
Aaronson looks like one of many who could depart Leeds this summer following Sunday’s relegation from the Premier League.
The 22-year-old only made the switch to Elland Road 12 months ago from Red Bull Salzburg, making 36 league appearances but scoring just once.
After a promising start to his career at Leeds, Aaronson really struggled with the physicality of English football and so a move away could well suit all parties.
Aaronson attracting German interest
Aaronson could well join his brother Paxten in the Bundesliga should a move be agreed, with the USMNT U20 international currently at Eintracht Frankfurt after his move from Philadelphia Union in January.
If Leeds are able to recoup anywhere close to what they paid Salzburg last summer it would represent an excellent deal and provide them with some big funds to splash on building a squad ready for the Championship.
Not too many Leeds fans would be disappointed to see the back of Aaronson, though a year in the second tier may well be good for his development.
However, it already appears as though Aaronson is considering his options elsewhere, which based on his performances this season, is pretty laughable.
90min also state that Leeds are resigned to the fact Aaronson will move on this summer and so in truth, the sooner the better so the club can start reinvesting some of that money back into the squad.
