Ethan Ampadu was asked in the week if he was feeling tired, having played every single minute of Leeds United’s 24 games this season – and Daniel Farke has now commented on Ampadu’s fatigue.

Ampadu, 23, has been a key cog for leeds this season, one of the first names on the team sheet in the middle of the park. But, question marks have surrounded his form of late, Farke has even been critical.

With his five Wales caps on top, Ampadu has already played 29 matches since joining Leeds. A huge total, and a total that is likely to edge close to 60 games if he stays fit – and Leeds finish in the play-offs.

Speaking this week, Ampadu was asked by Adam Pope if he is feeling any kind of tiredness or fatigue. He responded as one might have predicted, stating he feels fine and is ready to go ahead of Ipswich.

But, the £7m signing’s fitness was a talking point for Farke in the latest press conference on Thursday, as per the club’s YouTube. He told Pope, asking him about Ampadu’s fitness, that he could be tired.

“It’s important to listen to the science and each and every day, we analyse all the details. We try to manage the load. I don’t like this discussion too much. Ethan is the one player that could be a bit tired.

“Apart from him, we can go through everyone. If you say they should be tired, they start to feel tired. They are professional athletes. Resting players for two or three weeks never pays off, lose their rhythm.”

Leeds need Ampadu fit. Farke made the point in a recent press conference that while Ampadu’s form may have dropped of late, he still produces performances that are reliable – still a 7/10, at his worst.

Against Ipswich, Ampadu will be in the starting line-up unless he goes to Farke beforehand and states that he is feeling fatigue. But, Leeds need Ampadu to start every game because he is utterly crucial.
