Daniel Farke says Djed Spence’s moment for Leeds United is set to come ‘pretty soon’.
Spence returned to Leeds‘ bench for the first time since September on Wednesday night but was an unused substitute as the Whites ran out 3-1 winners against Swansea City.
Farke was once again asked in his pre-match press conference about the possibility of Spence being involved tomorrow against his former club Middlesbrough.
The Leeds boss suggested after the victory over Swansea that it would not be too long until he would be involved, but has seemingly gone a step further today.
Spence will be looking to dislodge Archie Gray from his position as Leeds’ current first choice right-back, who Farke claimed ‘had everything under control’ in midweek.
Spence minutes can’t come soon enough for Leeds
Leeds have seven matches over the course of December and so Spence’s quality will definitely be needed, and now Farke has hinted that minutes will come very soon.
“He is a pretty attack minded full back. Archie had everything under control. Djed, because of his ability and potential, I was thinking a lot about him. It was not the day to bring him in but that day could come pretty soon. Each and every day he is getting closer.”
It would’ve been nice to see Spence come off the bench in midweek with Leeds in a comfortable position in the game, but as Farke alluded to, Gray was performing very well.
Spence, though, will provide Farke’s side with a completely new dynamic down that right hand side both in attack and defence, with none of Leeds’ current right-back options possessing his pace and dribbling ability.
Leeds fans have seen just 10 minutes of Spence since his loan move from Tottenham, and it will definitely be a special moment the next time he steps out onto the field.
