Leeds United’s starting XI is about to go up another level after Daniel Farke’s latest injury update

Leeds United are the closest to a fully fit squad they have been for what feels like since before Marcelo Bielsa was in charge.

Daniel Farke confirmed in his pre-match press conference ahead of Swansea City yesterday afternoon that Stuart Dallas is the only long-term absentee ahead of the game.

That injury update means Djed Spence could finally set to be in a matchday squad for the first time since the beginning of September after recovering from knee ligament damage.

Farke did not include him in the squad at Rotherham United having only had a handful of training sessions, but spoke of how impressed he has been with him at Thorp Arch since then on Tuesday.

It is highly unlikely Spence will be thrown straight back in from the start but a place on the bench is a significant step in the right direction to being back fully fit.

Leeds’ starting XI will go up a level with Spence

Spence could provide Farke’s side with the missing piece in the jigsaw at right-back, with it clearly a position he has wanted to strengthen ever since he was appointed.

Luke Ayling has fallen significantly out of favour in recent weeks, while Archie Gray has done a decent job to replace him.

However, neither possess the pace or attacking ability to replace what Spence can do, meaning he will add a completely new dimension to Leeds at both ends of the field.

Leeds are often tasked with breaking down deep defensive lines in the Championship and so when the likes of Crysencio Summerville, Georginio Rutter and co are all double marked, that is where Spence can come into his own.

With such a busy period of fixtures to come in December, Leeds could not be welcoming Spence back at a more ideal time of the season.
