‘They’re so quick’: Georginio Rutter names which two players he really enjoys playing with at Leeds

Georginio Rutter says he really enjoys playing alongside Crysencio Summerville and Dan James at Leeds United.

Rutter was speaking in an interview with Sky Sports following his excellent start to the season with Leeds, where he also spoke about what it is like to play alongside such pacey wingers.

After a difficult start to life at Leeds, Rutter is now really beginning to thrive at Elland Road with his performances continuing to get better by the week.

Rutter has been the man tasked with leading the line under Daniel Farke, a role which can be tough against sides who like to sit deep and restrict the space.

Against Sheffield Wednesday, for example, Rutter was against a back five camped on the edge of their own box, which meant he really struggled to get into the game.

Rutter loves playing with James and Summerville

Rutter is beginning to adapt to that, though, enjoying his best week in a white shirt to date as Leeds picked up seven points against Millwall, Hull City and Watford.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s trip to Southampton, Rutter told Sky Sports how much playing alongside James and Summerville can help him due to their pace.

He said: “Summerville, James, they’re so quick! James got two assists against Watford, and it should have been three, but I missed the chance. They help because you don’t often have a lot of space. Physically it can be tough in this league. Everyone says because we were in the Premier League you will go straight back, but the Championship is a good league and it’s not always that easy.”

Rutter is likely to have more space to operate in this weekend at Southampton, who are a side who like to be on the front foot, dominating possession.

Hopefully the pace of Rutter, James and Summerville will be able to punish them on the counter-attack like several sides have already done so far this season.
