Leeds United currently have a host of players away with their counties for the international break, with Daniel Farke crossing his fingers that all return fit and healthy ahead of a key period for his side’s promotion push.

Leeds went into the break sitting third in the table behind Sunderland and Sheffield United, with just two points separating the top three.

The Whites face a long trip to Swansea in their first game back on Sunday, November 24, which will be the first of six games in 20 days ahead of the busy festive period.

Farke has dealt admirably with a number of injuries to key players in recent weeks, but will have been concerned to see Brenden Aaronson missing from the United States’ matchday squad on Thursday evening.

Brenden Aaronson’s USMNT absence explained

Mauricio Pochettino’s side took on Jamaica in Kingstown in the first leg of their Concacaf Nations League quarter-final and will take a 1-0 lead back the United States thanks for Ricardo Pepi’s fifth-minute goal.

Aaronson – who has revealed his goals and assists target for the season this week – has been a regular for the USMNT in recent months, starting each of their past four games, but he was completely absent from the matchday squad in Jamaica.

The USMNT website would later confirm that the Leeds star did not travel with the squad, as he experienced ‘flu-like symptoms’ and remained in St Louis, where Monday night’s second leg will be played.

Leeds United can ill-afford more midfield absences

Farke and the medical team at Leeds will no doubt be keeping a close eye on Aaronson’s condition, with illness and long-distance international travel not the perfect way for the 24-year-old to prepare for a busy section of Leeds’ season.

The Leeds boss has already seen his midfield depth decimated thanks to the injuries to first-choice central midfield pairing Ethan Amapdu and Ilia Gruev, while winger Largie Ramazani is also suffering with an ankle injury.

Joe Gelhardt, who could be a potential replacement in an attacking midfield role, has also been absent for Leeds’ last three games with a hip contusion.

Ampadu broke his silence on his knee injury and gave a positive update on his recovery, but Farke will be hoping for no more issues to pop up over the current break.
