David Prutton has shared his prediction for Leeds United’s trip to Sheffield Wednesday this evening.
The Whites head to Hillsborough looking to make it 12 wins from 13 league matches since the turn of the New Year, but at a time where they are playing their fourth game in just nine days.
Daniel Farke has been less than impressed with the schedule his side has faced recently, and it is fair to say there were some tired legs towards the end of Leeds’ 1-0 win over Stoke City on Tuesday.
With that in mind, Farke may be tempted to make some changes to his starting XI, with another tough game against a team fighting for their lives at the bottom to come.
Wednesday head into this match having actually won four consecutive league matches but writing in his latest EFL predictions column for Sky Sports, Prutton expects Leeds to secure another narrow win.
Prutton predicts narrow Leeds win
He said: “It just shows how strange this league is that Sheffield Wednesday could win four from five and move from 23rd to… 23rd in the table. But the fact they are in contention to move out of the bottom three on Friday night, from where they came from, shows just what a job Danny Rohl has done.
“The problem is they’ve got Leeds United standing in their way at Hillsborough. They returned to winning ways against Stoke in midweek after being held by Huddersfield at the weekend. And should have enough to power past the Owls. Prediction: Sheffield Wednesday 1-2 Leeds.“
If Leeds are able to come away with three points here it would arguably be their biggest of the season, considering their recent schedule, and the form of the opposition.
Leeds are likely to face a similar encounter to what they faced in last weekend’s West Yorkshire derby draw at Huddersfield Town, who tried anything and everything to stop Farke’s side from playing.
That said, if Leeds have the likes of Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter back to their best, they should have too much for this Wednesday side. However, it is going to be tough.
