Ben Godfrey remains a target for Leeds United between now and the end of the transfer window but the defender played for Everton on Tuesday night – and Jordan Pickford was impressed with him.

Leeds are said to have made a second offer for Godfrey, who was linked with a £10m move to Atalanta earlier this month. Sean Dyche is said to have had a conversation with him about his future last night.

With the deadline on Thursday looming, it is unclear if the Whites will get the England international. He starred last night as Everton drew 0-0 with Fulham, seeing out the entire 90 minutes at Craven Cottage.

Speaking after the game after Godfrey and Pickford kept a clean sheet away from home, the England goalkeeper was quoted by the Liverpool Echo as praising Godfrey, amid interest from Leeds this month.

“Ben (Godfrey) put a terrific performance in, especially getting a yellow early doors, playing against someone like Willian. Everyone is giving their all for the badge, if that’s extra running or extra training.”

Jordan Pickford impressed with Leeds United target Ben Godfrey

Godfrey is obviously a top, top defender that has proven he is of Premier League standard. A player with England caps, gaining interest from some of Serie A’s best sides. A deal was always going to be tough.

But given he played for Everton last night, and that Dyche had a conversation with him – it looks right now, as though Godfrey will be staying. Plenty of twists and turns are expected before the deadline.

Leeds have options in defence, but there is clearly room for a signing or two. Archie Gray and Jamie Shackleton are solid at right-back, but they’re naturally midfielders. A new addition is required.
