Wilfried Gnonto is now reportedly ‘ready to say goodbye’ to Leeds United with his recent lack of game time an issue.
That is according to Tutto Mercato Web, who report that Gnonto has asked to leave Elland Road with contact already having been made between Leeds and Lazio over a potential deal.
However, at the moment, Leeds‘ asking price is once again set to provide a stumbling block in any deal, with a fee well in excess of £20 million set to be demanded.
After a chaotic summer in which Gnonto refused to play and handed in a transfer request, reports have again began to recirculate ahead of January regarding a potential exit.
As per Team Talk, sources close to Gnonto believe a January exit could be a possibility, with Everton again among the front runners, alongside AS Roma and the aforementioned Lazio.
Gnonto ‘ready to say goodbye to Leeds’
Gnonto has been forced to play more a bit-part role since his return from injury, starting just one of Leeds’ last four matches. Both Crysencio Summerville and Dan James are ahead of him at the moment.
He was brought on in the 90th minute of Leeds’ win at Leicester City on Friday night, which for a player of his calibre, he will undoubtedly be disappointed with.
Gnonto is keen to ensure he is in the Italy squad ahead of next summer’s European Championships, which they have a good chance of qualifying for later this month.
The 19-year-old, regarded as a ‘special’ player by Michael Skubala, was in the Italy squad back in September but missed out in the last one due to injury.
With the talent he has there is no doubt his time will come at Leeds this season, but he will have to be patient for the time being. Whether he is able to do that, is another question.
