Leeds United will not be paying anywhere close to the reported £5 million asking price for Newcastle United’s Karl Darlow.
That is according to Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie, who was responding to a Newcastle supporter on Twitter, who claimed the Magpies would be doing ‘unreal business’ if the fee for Darlow was in the millions.
Instead, Downie confirmed Leeds will not be spending that sort of cash to sign the 32-year-old, in what is now looking like an impressive piece of business.
As per Fabrizio Romano, Leeds have now reached a verbal agreement with Newcastle for Darlow to become the club’s second signing of the summer.
Darlow is set to follow Ethan Ampadu through the doors at Elland Road, who joined in a deal worth £7 million last week.

Darlow is expected to fly back from Newcastle’s pre-season tour of the United States shortly so he can undergo a medical ahead of his move.
Goalkeeper had emerged as Leeds‘ priority position in the market following the addition of Ampadu and Daniel Farke is now ready to sign his main target.
When news of Leeds’ interest first broke, a price tag of around £5 million was quoted by various outlets, effectively ruling his former loan club Hull City out of the race.
However, it does not look like Leeds will be paying anywhere near that, which represents a very smart piece of business for a quality Championship goalkeeper.
If Illan Meslier goes onto be sold during the window, Leeds are likely to have made a substantial profit on a position they have not got weaker in.
