Simon Jordan discusses newly-available 40-year-old becoming next Leeds manager

Simon Jordan has told TalkSPORT (Tuesday, 11am) that Gary O’Neil should be wary over about a possible approach from Leeds United in the coming few days – after the Englishman was harshly sacked by Bournemouth on Monday.

O’Neil, 40, took over at Bournemouth after Scott Parker managed just four Premier League matches. The latter of which was a 9-0 loss to Liverpool. He impressed in his role, guiding Bournemouth to safety in a very solid 15th.

The Cherries were many people’s pick to go down, given the lack of perceived quality in their squad. But they were excellent, even beating us 4-1 in Javi Gracia’s final game. He has been replaced by Leeds target Andoni Iraola.

So, despite his wonderful season as Bournemouth boss, O’Neil finds himself without a job. Ex-Crystal Palace and outspoken pundit Jordan was presented with the idea of Leeds approaching O’Neil, when discussing his future.

He responded by saying that Leeds could be a tricky move for a manager that is still building a reputation: “I think Leeds is a tiger by the tail. You want to be careful when you’ve got new American owners with huge expectations.”

The front runners at Elland Road this week come in the form of the following – Daniel Farke, Patrick Vieira. Parker, who guided Bournemouth to the Premier League – his second Championship promotion – has also been interviewed.

Could Leeds add O’Neil to the shortlist? Well, we have ruled out Carlos Corberan because they want a manager with Premier League experience, according to The Mail. That would see O’Neil fall under the category of boss we want.

But the overall lack of experience would suggest, no. Farke and Vieira are the two front runners and the latter would certainly delight supporters. Farke would be a smart, safe choice. Whoever, Leeds must make a decision this week.
