Leeds United currently have a number of players out on loan but one may now have just seen his season ended prematurely.

In the wake of relegation almost 12 months ago, Leeds lost a number of first team players on temporary deals due to loan clauses that were inserted into their contracts.

It is unlikely any of them will be welcomed back into the fold at Elland Road and that is also likely to be the case for a number of others out in the EFL too.

Luke Ayling, Ian Poveda and Lewis Bate are currently on loan at clubs across the EFL and are likely to have played their last game for Leeds, with all three out of contract in the summer and not going to be offered new deals.

Having left in January, they have all gone onto make really strong impacts at their loan clubs in the hope they could potentially agree a permanent switch.

Danny Rohl says Leeds loanee Ian Poveda could now miss the rest of the season

Since joining Sheffield Wednesday in January, Poveda had been that extra creative force Danny Rohl so desperately needed in his Owls side.

Poveda showed glimpses of what he can do in the first half of the season at Leeds but going out to play regular football has provided him with the platform to enjoy himself.

However, Poveda may have just picked up a ‘serious’ injury at the worst possible time with Wednesday still in deep trouble at the bottom of the table.

Speaking to Sheffield Star, manager Rohl says it is possible Poveda has played his last game this season, but are hopeful he may recover faster.

He said: “For Ian we have to look at the last four weeks. He had a muscle injury, he started, he felt good, but it dropped again with an injury. It is always difficult, and it is why it’s difficult to say whether he can play one more game or not.

“At the moment it is a serious injury, but you never know sometimes, it can go quicker. At the moment we are looking at how he can come back healthy as soon as possible – but when that time will be I don’t know.”

Poveda misses chance to give final Wednesday audition

This news will no doubt be gutting for Poveda as ultimately, he is still set to be without a club by the time the summer rolls around.

The 24-year-old has been winning a lot of admirers at Wednesday for his performances but this injury will mean he does not get another opportunity to showcase what he can do.

What’s more, Wednesday are also very much at risk of being relegated and with he has proved himself since January, it is unlikely he would want to drop down to League One.

Poveda is certainly in for an interesting summer regarding his future and he will have his fingers crossed Wednesday can stay up.
