Ian Poveda has already made a big impact over at Sheffield Wednesday after joining the club on loan from Leeds United, with a permanent move expected – and local media raved about him last night.
Wednesday have turned their struggling form around. Almost coinciding with the addition of 24-year-old Poveda, Danny Rohl’s side have won five of seven Championship matches since the winger joined them.
He has started the last six, in which Wednesday have won five times. Four on the bounce. On Tuesday night, Wednesday edged past Plymouth to continue their superb run of form in the race for survival.
Wednesday and Poveda remain in 23rd place, but they have climbed to 38 points – one of four clubs on 38. They are just two points off 16th-placed Plymouth. Poveda has made a real impact at Wednesday.
He even scored in his first start, a 2-0 win over Birmingham City – after Tony Mowbray tried to sign him for the Blues. He lasted 76 minutes on Tuesday night, and the Sheffield Star gave him a rating of 7/10.

“Twisted and turned to create a chance for Ugbo. Had the ball in the net on 20 minutes, ruled offside – perhaps cruelly. Beats defenders, plays with a joie de vivre. Pleasure to watch, he’ll be missed on Friday.”
Local media rave about Leeds loanee Ian Poveda after 1-0 win
Poveda has joined Wednesday on loan until the summer, but with his Leeds deal due to expire in June, he will leave the club permanently. It is expected he will sign on a free transfer over at the Yorkshire side.
But it is great to see that Poveda is finally being given the platform to shine, after struggling for game time at Leeds and a couple of difficult loans. Now, he is finally looking like he is enjoying his football.
