Ian Poveda completed a loan move to Sheffield Wednesday on deadline day from Leeds United after struggling to play under Daniel Farke’s – and Ben Parker thinks he will join Wednesday permanently.
Poveda, 23, was expected to leave last summer after returning from a loan at Blackpool. But he did well in pre-season, scoring in a win over Nottingham Forest. He earned the trust of manager Daniel Farke.
He was a regular on the bench and did well when given the rare chance to shine. He played nine times for Leeds during the first half of the season, but only once from the start – a loss to Birmingham City.
Reports emerged of Wednesday and Birmingham’s interest in Poveda on deadline day – and the chance that it would be a permanent exit. It ended up being a loan to Wednesday. His contract ends in June.
Reports state that Leeds are unlikely to hand him a new deal and even Wednesday boss Danny Rohl is keen to sign him permanently. Now, Ben Parker has told LS11 he thinks he will leave Leeds for good.

“His contract is up in the summer, so for him to go somewhere with a view to a long-term contract just makes sense. Glimpses at times, but competition meant he was not going to be getting regular starts.”

Poveda has no future at Leeds. Unfortunately, because he is a player capable of producing magic. One with plenty of potential. A broken leg, poor loan spells and failing to do it in a Leeds shirt, contributed.
He needs to go somewhere where he is given a platform to go and shine. At Hillsbrough, even if Rohl’s side are relegated, he will get that. Finally, the chance to play regularly and show what he is good at.
