Ian Poveda has entered the final six months of his contract at Leeds United and both Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham City are keen to land the winger before the end of the January window.

Poveda, 23, returned to Leeds in the summer after a loan at Blackpool – another indifferent spell away from Leeds. But an impressive pre-season from the former Man City star saw him included this term.

He has managed 10 appearances in all competitions, taking his overall tally to 30 for Leeds since joining us way back in January 2020, four years ago. Needs a move, with his deal due to end in June, anyway.

The Sheffield Star now report that Poveda is attracting interest from both Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham City ahead of the 11pm deadline today. Birmingham have issues in trying to do a deal.

Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham want Leeds’ Ian Poveda

Of course, the Blues currently boast Cody Drameh on loan from Leeds and it might be that Leeds would rather send him to Tony Mowbray’s side – where Drameh is, instead of a local rival in Wednesday.

But from what the report suggests, Wednesday have a better chance of landing the winger – a player that Marcelo Bielsa liked having signed him during his stint at Elland Road as manager. He needs to go.

A player that won Colombia caps in December, he needs to go and get game time to strengthen his chances of playing for Colombia agin – not just friendlies in a Colombia B-team. That could now happen.
