Ian Poveda has been linked with a deadline day exit at Leeds United today and now it is being claimed that the winger is about to join Sheffield Wednesday on a permanent basis – before 11pm.
Poveda, 23, has only managed 30 senior outings for Leeds since joining the club four years ago on a free from Manchester City. He is one of a number of players that will see their Leeds deals end in June.
It was reported that both Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham City were keen on landing Poveda, who won two caps for Colombia in December. Then, it was added Poveda could go on a permanent basis.
Now, the former Blackpool and Blackburn loanee is set to go. Phil Hay reports on The Athletic’s live transfer blog (February 1, 6.47PM) that Poveda is set to join Sheffield Wednesday on a permanent basis.

The initial report did state that Tony Mowbray’s Birmingham side did have issues at their end over doing a deal – having got Alex Pritchard over the line. Poveda will join Wednesday before the 11pm deadline.
Sheffield Wednesday set to sign Leeds United player Ian Poveda
He needed a move. To have only played 30 times since signing in January 2020 during Marcelo Bielsa’s reign is simply not enough. Of course, he has gone out on loan and broken his leg. But he needed to go.
If he didn’t leave this month, he will have become a free agent in the summer. Now at least, he has the chance to go and show what he is capable of at Championship level – instead of warming our bench.
